Latin Group

Group details

The object of this group is to have fun recalling some of the Latin that we learned many years ago and to go on to read some Latin texts, including  modern translations as well as some classics. We have particularly enjoyed reading the erotic poems of Catullus, and Pliny the Younger’s account of the destruction of Pompeii in 79 AD. Digression onto any other subject that amuses us is an essential part of our meetings. At the moment we are working through one of Geoffrey Steadman’s books of classical fables.

As we are determined to continue as a small group, meeting in a member’s house,, we cannot currently accept additional members. However, you may apply to be put on the waiting list for any vacancies, and there is always scope for anyone to start another similar group, which we would be happy to help facilitate.
