About Us
The Mill Hill u3a is open to retired and semi-retired people who come together and learn together, not for qualifications but for its own reward: the sheer joy of discovery! In regular times, regular meetings are held once a month at Hartley Hall on Mill Hill Broadway. During COVID restrictions we invited our members to fortnightly Zoom talks by a wide variety of external speakers. We have now returned to normal, with our meetings again at Hartley Hall.
We have over 40 different interest groups where members may share their skills and life experiences – the learners teach and the teachers learn, and there is no distinction between them. Since COVID lockdown, most of these groups are functioning normally. See our ‘Groups’ page for the latest information.

Walks – Local Walks
The object of the group is to walk recognised long distance trails in and around London in monthly stages of around 8 – 15 miles per day. Walking is at a moderate pace.

Members of the group are enthusiastic in creating and discussing their writing with other members of the group. Writings cover a wide and diverse range of literary endeavour and include stories, novels in progress, memoirs, newspaper articles, comedy items, etc.

This group meets under the instruction of Hilary Saul, who has a diploma in horticulture from Capel Manor College. Meetings vary in their format and include sharing knowledge, learning and visits to gardens of interest.

A discussion group in which a chosen topic is discussed by all present. The intention is to discuss politics and current affairs.

The object of the group is to re-learn as much as possible of the Latin that we learned many years ago, and if possible to go on to read some Latin texts, including some modern translations as well as some classics.

Over a period of a few hundred years, only a small number of Western classical composers have made it to the musical “mainstream”. Hundreds of accomplished composers, (“unsung composers”) whose works rival those of Bach, Chopin, Ravel or Dvorak or took a new direction in music, have fallen through the cracks of time, known only within their home countries or considered mere footnotes in musical history.
