At the Hartley Hall meetings, a member of the group will lead a session on a specific aspect or topic of photography e.g. technical, composition, lighting, flash photography, etc. After the meeting, members are encouraged to take photos on this aspect or topic in their own time to bring to the next meeting, where they will be displayed on a large screen for discussion. We also get the chance to discuss our own camera’s features and settings and to get and give advice and guidance to each other. The format of the sessions is subject to change depending on what members want from the group. However, it is a practical group and not a social get-together to view holiday photos. There is a small fee of £3 per session to cover the cost of hiring the hall.
The ‘photo-shoot’ outings are usually in the mornings – 10.30 to 1.00 pm – though a few have been in the evening. Places visited so far include Darlands, Hackney Wick, Kenwood House, Waterloo Station and Westminster Bridge. We often have a theme for the outing and an experienced photographer to advise on aspects of photography. We break into small groups or individually but then get together over refreshments to look at our photos. At home we choose the best of our photos and bring these to the next meeting at Hartley Hall to show to the group on the large screen.
