Group details

Currently we meet by zoom, usually once a month, until government covid-regulations will allow us to meet face-to-face again at Hartley Hall. A member of the group (and on occasions a special external speaker) will lead a session on a specific aspect or topic of photography e.g. Composition, lighting, timing, portraiture, street, wildlife, editing etc.  Members also choose a topic that the group are encouraged to take photos on in their own time, or (when covid regulations allow), we can arrange for members to meet to take their photos together as a  “photo-shoot”. At each meeting we show images our members have sent in from the previous ‘photo-shoot’ topic. More experienced members of the group are often able to help and give advice to members who are having problems with their camera or want to know more about their features and settings. The format of the sessions is subject to change depending on what members want from the group.

Our aim is to enjoy our photography and have fun learning how to take more photos we are happier with! Our members include beginners through to experts, using all types of cameras from smartphones to compacts and DSLRs.

After 29th May we will be restarting ‘photo-shoot’ outings, where we can not only take our photos in small groups (max 6) but perhaps when restrictions allow gather over refreshments afterwards to catch up and review our photos before then also picking the best 3 we want to share at the next meeting.  Places visited previously include Darlands, Hackney Wick, Kenwood House, Waterloo Station and Westminster Bridge. We often have a theme for the outing and an experienced member to advise on aspects of photography. Members interested should email the group leader.

Current photoshoot topic: March: “Nature in Springtime!”

Future meetings:

Apr 12th: Portrait photography (Gerry Temple) followed by showing and discussing our images on the March photoshoot topic of “Nature in Springtime”

Once covid regulations allow – we will discuss returning to meet at Hartley Hall (when there is a small fee of £3 per session to cover the cost of hiring the hall). We can also consider restarting ‘photo-shoot’ outings, where we can not only take our photos in small groups but also gather over refreshments afterwards to catch up and review our photos before then also picking the best 3-6 we want to share at the next meeting.  Places visited previously include Darlands, Hackney Wick, Kenwood House, Waterloo Station and Westminster Bridge. We often have a theme for the outing and an experienced member to advise on aspects of photography.
