Group details
By arrangement some members choose to do research on aspects of the topic being discussed. Others are happy just to listen and then to take part in the discussion which follows.
For example, we recently devoted several meetings to different aspects of World War 1. These included, the development of aviation, the impact on the roles of women in Britain, a look at several individual countries involved in the conflict, which drew in countries from many parts of the world, and resulted in the redrawing of borders, especially in the Middle East, and the fall of many monarchies throughout Europe.
Since we have agreed not to study more recent issues in Britain and Europe, we have decided to examine the history of the USA, after 1776, when it ceased to be a colony of Britain.
This group is very much governed by its members and is very democratic.
Sue makes no claims to be a historian and leads the group nominally
